Based on OSHA and NFPA standards, a certified fire extinguisher company shall perform all fire inspections. Fire extinguishers are checked for physical damage during these inspections, and testing dates and operating pressure are visually verified. Every six years, maintenance should be performed. During this process, fire extinguishers in need of this service should be blown off into an approved bag, and all working parts should be inspected or replaced depending on the condition. Once this is done, a verification ring of service is placed around the neck of the fire extinguisher to verify that the service was performed as required.
